From Skin Poème ↗Post-acne marks — how to actually fade them (red, brown, and pitted)
The pimple heals in 3 days — the mark it leaves lasts 3 months. But there are 3 types of marks and each needs a different treatment. How to tell them apart and what works for each.

The pimple healed — but the mark stayed. And now you're treating it as a "dark spot" when it might be something else entirely. That's why most "mark-fading" products fail: there are 3 types of post-acne marks, and each needs a different treatment.
The 5-second test: which type do you have?
Press the mark with a clean finger for 2 seconds, then release:
- The color disappears for a moment and returns → red mark (PIE) — blood vessels damaged by inflammation. This is NOT pigment — brightening products don't touch it.
- The color doesn't change at all → brown mark (PIH) — excess melanin produced during healing. This fades with the right ingredients.
- The mark is a dent, not a color → atrophic scar — collagen loss. No cream fills a dent; creams only improve the surrounding texture.
Red marks (PIE) — calm the vessels, don't bleach the skin
A red mark is leftover inflammation — a "wound" still closing beneath the surface. What shortens its life from 6 months to 6 weeks:
- Azelaic acid — calms residual inflammation AND prevents new breakouts (which is why active-acne skin loves it)
- Zero irritation — every new flush resets the clock
- SPF — the sun turns red into brown. This is where most people lose.
The product: Anua Azelaic Acid 10 + Hyaluron Serum — 10% azelaic with hyaluronic, so it treats without irritating. Designed exactly for skin with red marks and active acne at the same time.

Brown marks (PIH) — this is where brightening comes in
Melanin produced during inflammation sits deep in the skin — that's why it takes weeks, not days. The winning combination:
- Niacinamide — blocks melanin transfer to the surface
- Tranexamic acid (TXA) — fades the stubborn pigmentation niacinamide alone can't reach
- Vitamin C — accelerates fading and adds glow
The product: Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Serum — the 10%+4% combination is exactly the dose used in studies. Apply every evening; first visible results in 4–6 weeks.

Pitted scars (atrophic) — the truth without smoke-selling
If the mark is a dent (ice-pick, boxcar, rolling) — the skin lost collagen at that spot. No cream in the world regenerates a dent. What you can do:
- Improve the surrounding texture — spicule-based products stimulate regeneration in the surface layers and soften the overall appearance
- For deep pits — professional microneedling or laser at a dermatologist. Full stop.
The texture product: VT Cosmetics Reedle Shot 100 — "microneedling in a bottle" with spicules that create micro-channels and push regeneration. Mild redness after application is normal — it means it's working. Start with 2–3 times a week, evenings only.

The golden rule for all three types
SPF every morning, no exceptions. UV darkens brown marks, prolongs red ones and deepens pits by destroying the collagen around them. You can do everything else right — without SPF, you're walking backwards.
And stop squeezing pimples. 90% of stubborn marks come from squeezing, not from the pimple itself.
